Imagining an equal world

I’ve been thinking of Bruce Chatwain’s book The Songlines, in which he related the story of the Indigenous Australian ancients “singing the world into existence.” That lovely image of them walking along singing the flowers and trees, birds and people into being has stayed with me over the thirty odd years since I read that amazing book.

We, as a country, need to sing a new, equal society into existence. We need a new creation story written by and for all of us this time. We need stories of that future from people of every race, gender, ethnicity or nationality, every sexual orientation or identity, spirituality, religion and ability.

I invite you all to write your story of a world with a level playing field for everyone. What will that society look like and how will it work? What will a day in your life be like in that new world? In your story of an equal society, all present conflicts and obstacles can have been resolved.

We need to take into account stories from everyone’s experiences, perspectives, talents and imaginations to sing this new, fair world into being. We need them all to envision and build a true democracy. mosaic, tile, art
